Grid Conversion .- UNIT 1 -.

23rd October 2013

Homework:

1.- Round these numbers:

Remember... if the number is bigger than 5, the previous number goes one up.

                 if the number is lower than 5, the previous number will be the same one.

ie.-  546 = (6) is bigger than 5 so the final number will be 550

       545 = (5) is 5 so the final number can be 540 o 550. Both are ok!

       543 = (3) is lower than 3 so the final number will be 540

53 492:        53 400 or 53 500

92 100:        92 000 or 93 000

165:            100 or 200

392:            390 or 400

785:            700 or 800

Complete these equivalences:

2 m = ............ cm

5 m= ............. dm

8 cm= ........... mm

6 km= ........... m

4 km 800 m = .......... m

1 m 25 cm =  .......... cm

2 km 25 cm = ......... cm

IMPORTANT: USE THE UNITS GRID & Remember fill the gaps with as many zeros as you need.

                                 km    hm    dam    m    dm    cm    mm

4 km =    40 000 dm        4      0        0      0     0

Solution: (200 cm - 50 dm - 80 mm - 6000m - 4800 m - 125 cm - 200 025 cm)

Match these lengths:

2 000 m                  20 mm

2m                         1 m

100 cm                   1 dm

2 cm                      200 cm

10 cm                     2 km

You need the GRID again!!

Solutions: 2 000m = 2 km // 2m = 200 cm // 100 cm = 1m // 2 cm = 20 mm // 10 cm = 1dm //

Problem:

Every day I walk:

430 m , 380 m, 650 m & 540 m

How much do I walk:

430 + 380 + 650 + 540 = 2 000m

How many kilometres are 2 000 m?

km   hm   dam  m

2     0      0     0

The answer is 2 km.

If in one day I walk 2 km, how many kilometres do I walk in 3 days?

a) 2 + 2 + 2 = 6km      or       b) 2km x 3 days = 6km

Maths Notes

m    dm   cm   mm

1

1      0     0

2

2      0     0

1m = 100 cm (we add as many zeros as places are)

2m = 200 cm

3m = ____ cm

4m = ____ cm

The answers are: 300 and 400 cm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

m    dm    cm    mm

1      5      0

2      2      7

1m 50 cm = 150 cm

2m 27 cm = 227 cm

3m 60 cm =       cm

4m 5 cm =         cm

The answers are: 360 cm and 405 cm (If there is no number in the grid, we add a zero)
